The appeal of most television shows and films centers around the characters, and those characters are defined by the costumes they wear. In Out of This World visitors will see, up close, how the costumes make a character. Would the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz or Darth Vader in Star Wars have been as frightening if they were dressed any other way? What marks these characters as villains? Find out why in this truly extraordinary exhibit.
Opening February 16, the museum will present an original exhibition of 49 authentic costumes and props from Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz, Blade Runner, The Terminator, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, and other popular science fiction and adventure films and television shows. Following its practice of bringing the latest innovative exhibits to the community, the Oshkosh Public Museum will be the first stop on the nationwide tour of this new and remarkable display.
The oldest costume on view will be the black pointed hat worn by the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. Instantly recognizable is Darth Vader's costume from Star Wars, leaving the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as one of the most stunningly unique props.
Fans will love the costumes and props used by some of Hollywood's biggest stars, as well as the intricate details of the clothing. Prepare for something really Out of This World. This amazing exhibit will run through May 18. Oshkosh will be the only Midwest venue.
