Isadoora Theatre Company
presents
Studs Terkel’s Musical
Working
Based on best-selling author Studs Terkel’s collection of interviews with American workers, the musical Working salutes the men and women who toil as steelworkers, secretaries, truckers, and postal carriers. Intensely moving, Isadoora Theatre presents Working at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek on Feb 14-17 and Feb 21-24.
Working the musical was adapted from Terkel’s book of the same name. Written by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, Schwartz wrote the music in collaboration with James Taylor, Mary Rodgers, Micki Grant, and Craig Carnelia.
Chronicling a day in the life of twenty-six average American workers, Working’s main characters include an ironworker, a waitress, a stone mason, a trucker, a housewife, a UPS delivery man, a teacher, and a retiree. The play’s story unfolds through their monologues as they describe their daily routines, their hopes and aspirations, all of which are based on true-life interviews conducted by Studs Terkel.
While there is neither a unified plot nor a narrative thread carrying the action foreword, each scene makes a smooth transition into the next, with each character's speech relates in content to what precedes and follows it.
Directed by Amy Shaw, the cast includes Door County community members: Ginger Auld, Jeffrey Berger, Ann Birnschein, Beth Faught, Holly Feldman, Andy Hall, Mary Hall, Katie Henz, Hervy Hodges, Ed D Maio, Chris Milton, Mark Moede, Karen Newbern, and Gwen Severson.
Under the direction of Mary Hall, the orchestra includes guitarist Craig Konowalski, bassist Craig McClelland, percussionist Bruce Newbern, and pianist Janet Osterburg.
Lynn Berger serves as assistant director/stage manager; props mistress is Melanie Croke. Door Community Auditorium staff members Pete Evans, technical director, and Kurt Thomas, assistant technical director, are providing technical design and direction.
Celebrating its 6th season, Isadoora Theatre Company produces three thought-provoking shows each season, conducts theatre and audition workshops, and provides opportunities for hundreds of amateur actors to experience the joy of theatre each year.
