Jessica will outline the pest control plan detailed in her book,
Grow Organic. Using techniques based on both Integrated Pest
Management and natural-care gardening, this plan enables
gardeners to manage any pest troubles safely, effectively, and
organically. Information about biological, botanical, physical,
and mechanical controls is offered; and there’s plenty of practical
and useful advice for boosting a plant’s natural immune system.

Betty Adelman, Heritage Flower Farm
The epitome of sustainable plants – heirlooms. Heirloom
perennials are reliable survivors, proven to re-bloom year after
year, hundreds, if not thousands, of times. Betty Adelman from
Heritage Flower Farm will show you some of her favorite
heirloom perennials from a different perspective – the flowers’
histories with stories of the adventures of plant hunters and the
plants’ lore and legends.

Jessica Walliser, Author and Radio Co-host of “The Organic
Gardeners”
Jessica Walliser co-hosts “The Organic
Gardeners”, every Saturday afternoon on
Sirius Satellite Radio channel 114 and
Sunday mornings on KDKA radio, in
Pittsburgh. Jessica is a regular
contributor to Organic Gardening,
Popular Farming and Hobby Farm
magazines, and her column ‘The Good
Earth’ appears weekly in the Pittsburgh
Tribune Review. Jessica is also heard on
WYEP FM, and can be found lecturing
to garden clubs, botanic gardens,
arboretums and other public garden facilities across the United
States. She received her degree in ornamental horticulture from
The Pennsylvania State University and is the former owner of a
25 acre organic market farm. Jessica serves on the faculty of
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens where she’s been
teaching for over 13 years. Jessica lives and gardens northwest
of Pittsburgh, PA with her husband John, and son Ty.

Betty Adelman, Heritage Flower Farm
Betty Adelman is the owner of award-winning Heritage Flower
Farm, a nursery she founded to specialize in heirloom perennials
(plants collected more than 100 years ago.) The Wisconsin Trust
for Historic Preservation honored Heritage Flower Farm with its
Historic Preservation Award. Named “Best of Milwaukee” by
Milwaukee Magazine, Heritage Flower Farm is located at an
1880 farmstead with acres of gardens and fields of heirloom
perennials, vines, ornamental grasses, trees and shrubs.
Magazines and books have featured Heritage Flower Farm for its
beauty and unique plant offerings. Plants from Heritage Flower
Farm grow in many museum and botanic gardens, including the
Smithsonian, and in neighborhood gardens throughout the
country.

Location
The Spring Thaw Symposium will occur at the Holiday Inn City
Centre, 200 Main Street, Green Bay. The downtown Green Bay
location is easily accessible from Interstate 43, Highway 41 and
other routes.
Registration
To register for the Symposium, use the registration form below
and send with payment to GBBG by March 21st, 2008. There is
generous space available: you will be informed if the Symposium
fills and you are placed on a waiting list. Otherwise, registrants
will receive a confirmation at the close of registration.
Program Cost
The cost of the Symposium is $59 for GBBG members and $75
for non-members. The cost includes all speakers,
demonstrations, handouts, lunch and refreshments.
Note: As a benefit, members at the Garden Benefactor, Garden
Ambassador, and Garden Visionary levels receive free admission
to either GBBG's spring or fall symposium each year. For more

Lunch
Registrants will be provided lunch by Holiday Inn City Centre:

Late Registration
Registrations received after March 21st are subject to a late
registration fee of $8.
Refunds
Refund requests made before March 21st and submitted in
writing will be honored, subject to a $5 processing fee. Refund
requests made later cannot be accepted.
