4th Annual Herbfest
“Create an herbal future, one herb at time….”
We are pleased to announce this year’s HerbFest will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Gardens of the Fox Cities in Appleton from 10 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The price is free with admission to the Garden ($3.00). Price includes access to a huge herbal plant sale and other herbal, garden and health related vendors.
Programs for the public to learn about herbs include:
10:15 - Herbs 101 – learn the history of herbs, uses and some easy to grow herbs 11:00 - Culinary Herbs – easy ways to use herbs from your garden
11:45 – Designing your herb garden – ideas to plan for your herb garden
12:55 – Herbs for Health, Nourishment and Fun – more great uses for those herbs
1:45 – Wisconsin Native Plants and Their Historical Uses – learn to recognize our own native (and a couple naturalized) and how they’ve helped Wisconsinites in the past 2:30 – Learn to make natural cleaning products for your home that do not include dangerous chemicals
3:15 – Aromatherapy – learn the history and common uses for the essence of the plants – essential oils.
Box lunches will be available.

The Northeast Wisconsin Unit of the Herb Society of America Green Bay – meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at the Green Bay Botanical Garden at 7:00 p.m. We are now expanding our group to the Fox Cities! Come learn about herbs with us on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 at the Gardens of the Fox Cities – 1313 E. Witzke Blvd in Appleton.
The Northeast Wisconsin Unit is only the second herb organization in Wisconsin to gain affiliation with the Herb Society of America. We study herbs at each meeting, participate in local gardening events at The Gardens of the Fox Cities, Bubolz Nature Preserve, and Navarino Nature Center. We sponsor the only HerbFest in Wisconsin – the first Saturday in May, this year at the Gardens of the Fox Cities. We have a sister club in Scotland, whom we visited in 2007 and will be visiting us in 2009. We have herbal crafts and culinary days where we use plants to cook with, or craft with. Past creations include tea dyed silk scarves, concrete leaf casting, hypertufa pots, gazing balls, and others. We have an herbal (fiction) book club that meets every other month.
