Local Fire and Police Departments Sponsor Battle of the Badges Bowl to Benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association

Green Bay, Wisconsin, March 19, 2008 – The 5th Annual Battle of the Badges Bowl to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will be held at 6:30 pm on Friday, May 9th, 2008 at Village Lanes on Velp Avenue in Howard. The City of DePere Police and Fire Department, the Allouez Fire Department, Ashwaubenon Public Safety, Brown County Dispatch, and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department are bowling for "Jerry’s Kids." All departments will be raising pledges and are competing for the coveted Battle of the Badges traveling trophy! Last year’s winner, the DePere Fire Department, look forward to defending their title at the 5th annual Battle of the Badges Bowl.

Collectively the six departments, with an estimated total of 10 teams competing, will raise money to assist Brown County residents with MDA summer camp, support groups, clinics, wheelchairs, and other diagnostic devices, and most importantly, research.

If you’d like to be a part of this special event we invite you to cheer your favorite fire and police department on! A special Thank you to Village Lanes for hosting this event. There are still opportunities for businesses to show their support through lane sponsorships and donations. You may contact Heather Williamson, MDA District Director at 920-499-4571.

MDA was founded in 1950 by a group of families whose children had muscular dystrophy. These people believed there was no incurable disease, rather diseases for which a treatment had not yet been found. This is still instilled in the Association today.
