Social/Silent Auction at Notre Dame Academy raises funds for social justice interfaith coalition
Justice Organization Sharing Hope and United for Action (JOSHUA), an interfaith coalition of 12 area churches focused on addressing common community concerns, is hosting its annual social/silent auction on Sunday, April 27th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Academy, 610 Maryhill Drive in Green Bay.
This year’s event, titled Tied Together in a Single Garment of Destiny, borrows form Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s statement on the importance of community: “We are tied together in the single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of mutuality...This is the way God’s universe is made, this is the way it is structured.”
Former Assistant Attorney General for the State of Wisconsin, restorative justice advocate and United Churches of Christ minister Rev. Jerry Hancock will be the keynote speaker at the event. Rev. Hancock entered the ministry after 30 years of work in the criminal justice system and offers an insider’s perspective on issues of crime and punishment. States Rev. Hancock, “About five years ago, I began to think that God might be calling me in a different direction. I know that God wants me in prison. I need to be in prison to find the justice that is missing in the legal system."
Tickets for the social and fundraiser are $10.00 and available at the door, or can be reserved (and picked up at the door) by calling the JOSHUA office at 362-1511. Ticket price includes admission to the keynote speech held in the auditorium (2:00-3:30 pm) and to the silent auction and social (3:30-5:00 pm) featuring an array of hors d'oevres.
