You are invited to join Preble High School's Sting Cancer Awareness Team in celebrating the nationwide LiveSTRONG - Wear Yellow Day on May 13.  As you probably know, Lance Armstrong started the LiveSTRONG Foundation to unite people to fight cancer, knowing that "unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything."  We have teamed up with the Breast Cancer Family Foundation, Mayor Schmitt, and area businesses and organizations like yours to help bring awareness to the continuing fight against cancer and efforts to make it a national priority.

In case you have not heard of Sting Cancer, we are in our fourth year of existence, dedicated to helping reduce the effects of cancer by initiating and supporting programs and activities.  Our group is made up of over two hundred passionate Preble High School students and faculty wanting to raise awareness of cancer, support those in our community affected by cancer, and encourage formation of similar groups in high schools nationwide.

When we heard about the nationwide Wear Yellow Day, we decided that we would like to get the entire Green Bay area involved.  Here is what we have planned so far:

  • Stronger as a Survivor Vigil at Preble High School's Gauthier Family Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on May 13, with local speakers, musicians, yellow balloon release ceremony, Locks of Love, etc.
  • Encouraging yellow t-shirts to be worn to promote the LiveSTRONG idea by area businesses, schools, organizations, and individuals on May 13
  • Proclamation by Mayor Jim Schmitt that May 13 is Green Bay LiveSTRONG Wear Yellow Day, along with billboards marking the occasion.
  • Cancer and LiveSTRONG awareness activities in area schools the week of May 12
  • Press conference at Lambeau Field featuring several Sting Cancer student members, local celebrities, and survivors
  • Yellow "Caps for Chemo" by the Preble Knitting Club for those who have lost their hair
  • Yellow unity Chain of Survival made by school students throughout the Green Bay area with the name of the student and the name of a person(s) they'd like to remember or honor who has fought cancer.  It will be displayed at the vigil on May 13.

What can you do?  We are looking mainly for you to join us in promoting the idea of Wear Yellow Day on May 13 within your own business or organization.  Many businesses are making up yellow t-shirts with the LiveSTRONG Logo and their business name on them.  (We can email you the design.)  Even if you can't do a personalized yellow t-shirt for the day, we'd love it if you'd simply promote it through your newsletters, email, posters, bulletins, etc. to try to turn Green Bay YELLOW for the day!

If you'd like to help further, we could certainly use donations of money to help with expenses for the  LiveSTRONG vigil, as well as participants for Locks of Love at the vigil and the vigil itself.  We'd also like any pictures of your organization dressed in yellow sent to us via email to forward to the LiveSTRONG Foundation, showing them that northeast Wisconsin believes in the LiveSTRONG idea.
