Lake Sturgeon
Lake sturgeon have a long and important history in Lake
Michigan and in particular, in Green Bay and the lower Fox
River. Fishery Biologist Rob Elliott from the US Fish and
Wildlife Service has been working with this species in area
waters of Green Bay for the last 10 years in coordination
with other sturgeon biologists and researchers around the
Great Lakes. He will talk about this species status in local
waters and about their unusual life history that has
sustained them for 10,000 years but also made them
susceptible to extirpation in today's world. He also will
share new findings and initiatives that are important to this
species continued recovery and explain why sturgeon
should have a brighter future here in the waters of Green
Bay and elsewhere around Lake Michigan.
