FOREST SERVICE SPONSORS 17th ANNUAL KIDS FISHING DAY
JUNE 7th AT CAMP 7 LAKE CAMPGROUND!

Escanaba, MI -- LET’S GO FISHING!  The Hiawatha National Forest will
once again be sponsoring "Kids Fishing Day" on Saturday, June 7th,
the 17th year of the event.  Kid’s Fishing Day is made possible
thanks to the Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sports Fishermen, the Michigan
Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Unlimited of Delta County,
and the cooperation of many volunteers, local merchants and civic
organizations.  Kids Fishing Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th,
at Camp 7 Lake Campground from 11:00 AM until 3:30 P.M.  Registration
will begin at 11:00 and will run until 1:00 in the Picnic area.  This
is Michigan’s Free Fishing weekend, a time when all fishing license
fees are waived for residents and out-of-state visitors alike.

This free, fun-filled day is designed for children 16 years of age
and under who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.  The day’s
events will include a casting contest, raffle prizes, free food, and
two trout ponds for kids ages 12 and under.  Smokey Bear will be
there as well.  All of those children who register will receive a bag
chock full of fishing goodies donated by fishing tackle
manufacturers, and they’ll also be eligible for a raffle which
includes fishing rods, reels, tackle, and other prizes donated by
local businesses and civic organizations.  Free food donated by local
merchants from Manistique, Escanaba, Gladstone and Rapid River will
be served by the Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sportsfishermen.

For families traveling from the Manistique area, Camp 7 Lake
Campground is located 4 miles west of County Road 437 (the Thunder
Lake Road) on Schoolcraft County Road 443.  For families traveling
from Escanaba, Gladstone and Rapid River, Camp 7 Lake Campground is
located 8 miles east of Forest Highway 13 on County Road 442.  For
those traveling from Munising, County Road 442 is 25 miles south of
M28 on Forest Highway 13.  And for those families wishing to camp for
the weekend, some campsites can be reserved in advance by calling
toll-free 1-877-444-6777.  Most campsites are available on a first
come, first served basis as well.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children out to Camp 7 Lake to
introduce them to the joys of family fishing!  For additional
information, please contact Brenda Madden at the Forest Service
office in Manistique at 906-341-5666 ext. 17 or Gary Olson at the
