THE KANDY KOSTKA BENEFIT
In July of 2007 Kandy Kostka age 25, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; a cancer that develops in the lymphatic system which affects the immune system. Kandy started her battle off by having a few lymph nodes removed from her neck. The doctor’s then preceded with bi-weekly chemo treatments to help shrink the cancer in her body as well as receiving booster shots to help keep up her immunity.
Kandy was given the good news of being in complete remission two month after treatments began unfortunately about two months later the doctors learned that Kandy’s cancer had returned. This time Kandy needed a more powerful type of chemo. Including her chemo treatments Kandy was also able to donate her own stem cells. Kandy was then hospitalized on February 12th 2008 for three weeks to receive a steam cell transplant. Receiving this transplant consists of Kandy needing to be in an extremely clean environment, leaving her unable to work and be out in the public for at least the next three months. Once Kandy is able to return to work she will still need to be very cautious, continue with follow up care, and receive Radiation Therapy.
Kandy graduated from NWTC with a Micro Computer Specialist Associates Degree. She lives in Milwaukee and works at Schenck Business Solutions as an Executive Assistant for the firms Audit Team.
To help Kandy out with the many costs that have developed from this cancer, her friends and family are putting on a benefit for her.
