The Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley, Inc. and US Oil Co. will sponsor the 18th Annual Emergency Shelter Garden Walk on Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. This year’s event will feature six beautiful local gardens and admission to the Paper Valley Garden Club’s judged horticulture show held at Fox Valley Technical College.
Tickets for Garden Walk 2008 are available at the Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley, Inc. (400 N. Division St., Appleton), Charles The Florist, Gary’s Flowerland, Memorial Florists, Memorial Park & Arb, The Plant Station Greenhouse, Inc., Reynebeau Floral, Inc., Riverside Florist, Schmalz Custom Landscaping, Shade Today Nursery, Sterling Gardens, Vande Heys Landscaping Center, Van Zeeland Nursery, Wildbird & Backyard, and The Wreath Factory. Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 the day of the Garden Walk. Garden Walk 2008 is a rain or shine event, please dress accordingly. Most gardens are not wheelchair accessible.
All proceeds from Garden Walk 2008 will help the Emergency Shelter offset the cost of providing shelter and services to homeless men, women and children. Last year, the Emergency Shelter served over 1,600 persons who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. On any given day in the Fox Valley, over 275 people are homeless. The Emergency Shelter is the only shelter in the Fox Cities serving families and adults experiencing homelessness.
Everyone over 12 years of age is encouraged to take the Garden Walk and enjoy the day as local homeowners generously volunteer their time and open their yards as hosts to the nearly 1,200 anticipated walkers in this year’s event.
