Harvey Hurdle, the former Chief Operating Officer for the Human Rights Campaign will speak at 3 p.m. at the area’s first-ever Pride Alive festival, July 12, Joannes Park in Green Bay.

Hurdle has spent the majority of his career advancing civil rights for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community. Having “come out” at the age of 28, Hurdle says he has committed himself “to creating a world where everyone has the same basic rights to live openly and honestly, both personally and professionally.”

Hurdle served as COO for the Human Rights Campaign based in Washington, D.C., from 2001 to 2004. During his tenure, the HRC experienced record growth, completed a $29 million capital campaign, and successfully defeated the Federal Marriage Amendment.

From 2005 to 2006, Hurdle served as Finance Chair of Liberty PA, a Pennsylvania-based political action committee that mobilized the LGBT community in their successful effort to defeat Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA). Hurdle has also served on the board of the AIDS Information Network.

Hurdle is currently the Chief Operating Officer for Sellers Dorsey, a national healthcare consulting firm specializing in creating transformative change in public healthcare programs.

Pride Alive festival will be held Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., at Joannes Park. The festival will include live entertainment, food, fun, games and activities, and informative presentations that celebrate the LGBT community.
