SUMMERFEST COMES TO MUNISING
Munising, Mich. – Summerfest comes to Bayshore Park in Munising on Saturday,
July 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bayshore Park, home of Munising’s city marina and Pictured Rocks Boat Cruises, provides the perfect backdrop for this celebration of summer.
Boaters can build their own vessel and get ready to climb aboard to compete in the “Float Your Boat” Race. Using imagination, creative spirit and a sense of adventure, boaters will climb aboard and paddle to the finish line. Eco-friendly materials such as milk jugs, soda bottles and laundry jugs are just some of the materials allowed. There are both individual and team categories for this race, and registration is required. A $10 entry fee allows participants to enter all categories for the entire day. The race starts at 11:30 a.m.
Another event is scheduled to find out who makes the best ribs in town. Entrants should bring their grill, ribs and cheering team to the “Family & Friends BBQ Rib Cook-Off.” Individuals and/or teams can register. Each entry will be assigned a space for their group to cheer them on and a sign will be provided with their family or team name. There is no entry fee and all samples shared with family and friends are to be free. Judging will take place at 4:30 p.m. and an award will be presented for the best BBQ ribs. The panel of experts judging the event will include local restaurant owners.
The park will be filled with games for kids of all ages. Kids can bring their own frog for the Frog Jumping Race, enjoy fishing for prizes, sail Bigfoot Boats down Moose River, jump in the Moon Walk or ride the Ferris Wheel.
Other highlights of Summerfest include featured guests Lois Beardslee, who will be sharing her experiences as a Native American author and artist, and Carl “Bearfoot” Behrend, a local musician and author who will be performing through song the stories and legends of the Great Lakes. The local 4-H group Center Stage will be performing “1492 Blues,” and the Coast Guard will be giving tours of “Coastie the Safety Boat” and the Sheriff’s Department will have on hand their hovercraft and Zodiac.
Food, drinks and vendors displaying their artistic talents will also be set up in Bayshore Park during Summerfest.
