Dick Bennett Key Speaker at “Tip Off” Dinner
– Oshkosh West Basketball Club Fundraising Event –
Oshkosh, Wisconsin – On November 2, 2009 Oshkosh West Basketball Club will host its 4th annual "Tip Off" Dinner & Auction at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Oshkosh. The guest speaker will be Adrian Tigert former Oshkosh West, UW-Milwaukee and professional European basketball standout. The featured speaker will be Dick Bennett former UW-Stevens Point, UW-Green Bay, Wisconsin and Washington State coach. He is best known for revitalizing the Wisconsin Badgers basketball and is the father of University of Virginia’s Coach Tony Bennett. Bennett's teams were known particularly for their defensive prowess. While at Wisconsin his teams led the Big Ten in scoring defense four straight years and finished in the top-five nationally three times. Bennett recruited players who were willing to place teamwork and discipline ahead of personal statistics. His players excelled in the classroom as well as on the court. While few NBA players emerged from his programs, most of his players have gone on to success in other careers, including coaching.
The “Tip Off “ Dinner and Auction is the primary fundraiser for the Oshkosh West Basketball Club. The club is designed to promote youth basketball for both boys and girls that live in the West School district and are in grades 3-8. Players participate in area basketball tournaments and the Club is a development program for the girls and boys basketball teams at Oshkosh West High School. The Club is proud of the fact that Oshkosh West has sent a team to the state tournament in 8 of the last 9 years and that both the boy’s team and the girl’s team have each won 2 state titles. The “Tip-Off” Dinner & Auction begins at 5 p.m. Tickets prices are $25.00 per adult and $15.00 per student. After October 20 ticket prices will be $35.00 per adult and $20.00 per student.
