The collapse of the bridge in Minneapolis has left people across the country in shock. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty said the Minneapolis bridge was inspected by Minnesota officials in 2005 and 2006 and that no immediate structural problems were noted, only a few minor problems. However, the Star Tribune reported that the 40-year-old bridge was rated as "structurally deficient" two years ago and possibly in need of replacement according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Bridge Inventory database.
