The bridge that I am most afraid of collapsing is the Highway 41 Butte des Morts bridge north of Oshkosh. It is over 40 years old ,and if it collapses, it's a long way down .I remember when I was a small boy, I begged and pleaded with my parents not to go on 41 from Fond du Lac to our grandparent's cottage near Mountain; rather choosing the relative safety of Highways 151 and 55 and , ironically, the drawbridge over the Fox River in Kaukauna. I was scared of drawbridges, too, but it was a kiss from Miss America compared to Butte des Morts.
To this day I am still scared of the Butte des Morts bridge, both as a driver and as a passenger. I had nightmares as a kid of falling off the Butte des Morts bridge as it crumbled;and I still have them today.I hope and pray that they are not premonitions about that bridge. With all the traffic on Highway 41, there would be a disaster equal to the 35W collapse on August 1st. in Minneapolis. That is why I fear the Butte des Morts bridge.
